Coyote Moon: Bio

COYOTE MOON

Coyote Moon sings songs that evoke the wide open spaces of the West. With two voices, two guitars, and a fiddle, their sound is carefully crafted and ranges from intimate to rockin'.

Emilyn and Coyote Joe share their passion for Americana music in Coyote Moon, drawing from their diverse backgrounds in country, folk, rock, and Classical music.

Emilyn’s gentle fingerpicking and mesmerizing soprano clearly complement the high energy of Coyote Joe’s soulful and energetic guitar and vocals, creating the tangible synergy that defines Coyote Moon. Both performers also offer a few solo tunes, showcasing their individual styles and adding variety to the show.

Their songs range from Rocky Mountain inspired originals, to classics of Ian Tyson and Emmylou Harris, and traditionals such as Shenandoah and Wayfarin Stranger--all sung from the heart and tied together with tight vocal harmonies.

Emilyn

Emilyn grew up around the East and Midwest, but her soul has always been in the Rocky Mountains. The timeless quality of the mountains is echoed in the timeless quality of her music--both the traditional songs she loves, and the songs she writes.

She grew up in a musical household and plays seven instruments, but sticks to vocals, guitar, and fiddle with Coyote Moon. Studying at Oberlin Conservatory, traveling with her high school choir to sing in Eastern European cathedrals, singing folk songs with her family, performing in church growing up, singing with the renowned Ars Nova Singers, and travels around the United States have influenced her musical development.

With a voice that has been compared to Judy Collins, Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, and "angels," and a stage presence to match, Emilyn is clearly a versatile performer and a strong match for Coyote Joe's howl-resembling style.

Coyote Joe

At different times in his life, you might have found Coyote Joe (a.k.a. Joe Kuckla) atop the frame of a house with a hammer and nails, herding goats in the Rocky Mountains, or stomping and singing his heart out on a stage somewhere in America.

Originally from coal mine country in Pennsylvania, Joe grew up with classic rock, yet eventually studied music in college in Colorado. After the inevitable complications to writing and performing that arose from attending music school, he spent time developing a repertoire and stage presence that has the polish of a seasoned performer combined with the energy and charisma that can only come from someone genuinely enjoying themselves.
